The Student Services department at AUIS organized a picnic for dorm residents on Friday, October 12, 2018. Around 120 student residents and their AUIS guests took six buses to the Ahmed Awa resort, east of Sulaimani. There, they spent the day visiting the waterfall, eating a catered lunch of dolma and biryani, talking, and dancing. They were accompanied by Student Services staff Shirin Tareq, Karzan Afrasieyo, Begard Sherwan, Shavgar Haji, and Sherzad Rahim.
The AUIS Unity Council, a student-led club, held its annual spring picnic in the lake district town of Dukan, some 35 miles northwest of Sulaimani. The annual event draws large crowds of attendees who come to enjoy food, music, and the launch of lanterns at the end of the night. Through this and similar events, the Council aims to foster closer ties among the diverse ethnicities and religious groups represented in AUIS’s student body.
