AUIS Hosts 8th Annual Career Fair

American University of Iraq, Sulaimani (AUIS) hosted its eighth annual Career Fair on April 24, 2019, bringing together 36 sponsors and exhibitors, and continuing its tradition as a forum for talented jobseekers to meet and network with recruiters from the country’s most sought-after companies and organizations.   Under the theme, “Bringing the Best to Sulaimani,” the 2019 AUIS Career Fair organizing committee extended invitations to top students from universities across the Kurdistan region and southern Iraq to participate and attend the one-day event. Students from Baghdad, Basra, Sulaimani, Erbil, and Koya attended the event and high school students from the Sherko Bekas School in Sulaimani also made an appearance at the Fair as part of their scheduled campus visit to AUIS.   Eighty percent of AUIS alumni are employed full-time or pursuing graduate studies.   Companies and organizations from both the public and private sectors were present at the Fair, representing a range of sectors from oil and gas; banking and finance; telecom; media and advertising; business; education; non-profit and civil society; e-commerce; and more. Some 800 attendees took advantage of the chance to meet face-to-face with representatives and learn about employment and internship opportunities as well as developments in various industries.   As one of the highlights of the spring semester, the annual Fair plays an important role in  providing opportunities for students and alumni to evaluate future career paths. The Fair itself, along with career-themed seminars and workshops that take place during the week, give students and alumni a chance to explore themes in employment and post-graduate studies.   Find more photos from the 2019 AUIS Career Fair on our official Flickr account.   The Fair’s organizing committee would like to extend special thanks to the event’s Platinum and Gold sponsors:

2018 Career Fair brings 30 employers to AUIS

American University of Iraq, Sulaimani (AUIS) held its seventh Career Fair on April 12, 2018, featuring some 30 diverse employers from across Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.   The annual event provides a unique opportunity for alumni and students graduating from AUIS and other universities in the region to engage with top employers. The 2018 event included companies, non-profit organizations and alumni businesses and sponsors, from both the private and public sectors, as well as the humanitarian community.    The organizing committee thanks the Career Fair’s Platinum Sponsor Qaiwan Group, as well as the Gold Sponsor Moka & More.     AUIS held the largest career fair in the region, the Sulaimani Job Fair in 2015, in collaboration with Foras/USAID. The two-day event attracted some 47 employers and 1,400 job seekers. The next year’s job fair was held exclusively for AUIS students and graduates and despite the ongoing financial crisis, 36 companies from the private and public sectors registered for the event, as well as a number of NGOs and international development organizations.    In 2017, AUIS continued hosting this unique platform for both employers and job seekers as an arena meet and discuss employment opportunities, and for companies to network and promote their brands.    The 2018 Career Fair was once again open to both AUIS students and alumni as well as upper-level students from top universities in Kurdistan. Exhibitors present at the seventh career fair event enjoyed access to the most competitive pool of job seekers in Kurdistan. We thank our sponsors and exhibitors for choosing to be part of the 2018 Career Fair!

AUIS Hosts Sixth Annual Career Fair

“This was a great event because it brought together several themes of AUIS: Excellence in our students and graduates, involvement in the broader community, and service to others. We had hundreds of AUISers, both current students and alumni, pursuing employment opportunities with dozens of companies and NGOs,” said Geoffrey Gresk, dean of students, “We were also joined by guests from University of Suli and other institutions of higher education in the region. Finally, as always, we relied on a great team of student volunteers and staff members to make the day run as smoothly as it did.” The one-day event took place at the University’s conference hall, with participation of 28 companies from private and non-private sector, international development organizations, NGOs, and new startups. This event as always provides an exclusive opportunity for job seekers to engage with recruiters and have one-on-one interviews as well as a platform for recruiters to network and promote their brand. “Every year, companies from the private and non-private sector, as well as NGOs, participate at the Fair, but this year in particular, we had a number of startups that were established by our own graduates, like SAA company and MySolution, looking to hire AUIS graduates. This is something we at AUIS pride ourselves with,” said Hana Saida, AUIS communications and outreach manager and one of the organizers of the event. “Another startup, Middle East Sustainable Peace Organization MESPO -- founded by an International Studies (IS) graduate -- was looking for other IS students to provide internship opportunities.” AUIS hopes to continue hosting the annual Career Fair in the coming years. Without the support of our sponsors and exhibitors this would not be possible. Special thanks to Qaiwan Group for being our platinum sponsor for the third consecutive year, as well as our gold sponsor, The International School of Choueifat, who participated in the Fair for the first time. “We are incredibly grateful to our partners in the private, government, and non-profit sector who joined us as exhibitors for this event, as well as the hundreds of students, alumni, and outside guests who participated in this year's fair. AUIS remains committed to helping develop the private sector in Kurdistan and Iraq, through both connecting local and international firms with amazing AUIS students and alumni, as well as by helping foster new innovative startups from our student and alumni entrepreneurs. The AUIS Career Fair helps us accomplish both goals by helping us be a more effective resource for our students and a better partner for firms operating in the region,” said Oliver Keels, director of student services and one of the main organizers. Special thanks to our sponsors, without their contribution, the Career Fair would not have taken place.

This event is not possible without the support that our community partners give," said Oliver Keels, director of student services, "They exhibit the very best of Sulaimani, Kurdistan, and Iraq."  The event opened with a short speech by AUIS Dean of Students, Geoffrey Gresk, where he explained that career fairs are essential to students' career development and advancement. This was followed by a guest talk by Mr. Ghassan Marrouche, CEO of Dilnia, one of the sponsors of the Career Fair, in which he described his comapny's line of work and the scope of career growth in the insurance industry and its importance in the Kurdistan Region. This year, the job fair was open only to AUIS students and graduates which gave an exclusive access for exhibitors to meet and interview the top talent at the University. The event also provided an opportunity to the exhibitors to promote their products and brands and to engage and network with the other organizations. “AUIS graduates are resourceful. They have strong skills and capabilities and most of our students already have some work experience through internships and summer programs. Recruiters have to spend very little time training them to adapt to their new working environment," said Hana Saida, communications associate and an organizer of the event.  Click team at AUIS Career Fair!
