Sulaimani, Iraq – February 8, 2015 – The Professional Development Institute (PDI) at the American University of Iraq, Sulaimani (AUIS) today announces that the Project Management Institute (PMI)®, the world’s largest project management member association, has named AUIS/PDI as the first Registered Education Provider (R.E.P.) in Iraq. R.E.P.s are organizations that have been approved by PMI to help project managers achieve and maintain the Project Management Professional (PMP)®, Program Management Professional (PgMP)® , Project Management Scheduling Professional PM-SP® and other PMI professional credentials. AUIS/PDI has met PMI®’s rigorous quality criteria for course content, instructor qualification, and instructional design. The Professional Development Institute at AUIS joins more than 1,500 R.E.P.s in more than 80 countries.

The value of project management skills cannot be underestimated. 80 percent of global executives believe project management is a core competitive competency that drives organizational success. 90 percent of global senior executives ranked project management as important to their ability to deliver successful projects. For a majority of companies, building a strong project management discipline is a top priority as they plan for the future. Project management provides a way to control spending and improve project results by streamlining the project delivery process, cutting costs, reducing risks and improving customer service.

PDI Director Dr. Robert Ritchie explained that worldwide, it is projected that by 2020, there will be over 12.7 million new project management roles created. Along with job growth, there will be a significant increase in the economic footprint of the profession; the project management profession is slated to grow by USD$6.61 trillion. This enormous anticipated growth, along with higher-than-average salaries, will make the next seven years an opportune time for professionals and job-seekers to build project management skills. These project-intensive industries include information services, oil and gas, construction, business services, finance and health care. As both Kurdistan and Iraq focus on new investment projects, infrastructure improvement and industrial growth, project management skills will become even more important for those seeking new employment opportunities and salary growth.
