Sulaimani, Iraq – January 25, 2015 – The Professional Development Institute (PDI) at the American University of Iraq, Sulaimani recently announced the launch of a networking skills training academy in collaboration with Cisco, the worldwide leader in networking. The courses are delivered in partnership with Cisco Networking Academy, a global education program that helps students prepare for Information and Technology Careers (ICT) such as network security and administration, technical support, and healthcare IT; professional certifications; and higher education in engineering, computer science, and related fields.
PDI Director Dr. Robert Ritchie explained the motivating factor in creating this partnership was to provide much needed employment opportunities for the region and country. The ever increasing use of IT technology in Kurdistan and Iraq through social networking, e-commerce, cloud computing, web conferencing and desktop visualization has created new economic opportunities for individuals. All of these capabilities are powered by networks and organizations around the world are experiencing a shortage of qualified IT personnel to design, install and manage those networks. Students who gain IT knowledge and hands-on training through the Networking Academy courses can earn Cisco career certifications and increase their employment opportunities.
PDI will begin offering courses in February 2015 with the introduction of the Cisco Certified Networking Associate (CCNA) course and then continuing with Cisco Certified Networking Professional (CCNP) and other advanced courses. The course materials were developed by Cisco and a team of global educators and offer features such as network exercises, labs, and assessments that provide remedial feedback to help reinforce important concepts. Certified instructors provide hands-on support in specially equipped labs to facilitate learning and track student progress.
The Professional Development Institute complements the educational objectives of the American University of Iraq, Sulaimani by providing opportunities for lifelong learning through programs and services that enable participants to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to achieve personal and professional goals, improve the productivity of organizations, and provide leadership and service to their communities. Working collaboratively with individuals, businesses and both government and non-governmental organizations, PDI seeks to identify and develop value-adding programs and services. PDI firmly believes that by providing consistent, ethical and quality programs and services it can play an important role in human capacity development for the community.
