Dr. Sinawi joined AUIS in the fall of 2019 as the chair of Engineering Department. Prior to his appointment at AUIS, he has held faculty positions for a total of 19 years at Khalifa University, American University of Sharjah, and King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals. He started his engineering career as a research and development engineer at the International Truck and Engine Corporation, USA. He has worked on numerous projects related to active control of machining processes, turbine blades modeling and control, Unmanned Arial vehicles, fuel cells, remote sensing, magneto-rheological dampers, structural design and fatigue analysis, and impact dynamics. He has numerous publications and funded research projects in related fields. His research interests include, structural damage detection, modeling and control of linear and nonlinear dynamic systems, system identification, MEMS modeling and control, and nondestructive testing.
Dr. Sinawi earned his MS and PhD in mechanical engineering from the University of Dayton, Ohio, USA in 1995 and 1999, respectively. He is a reviewer for many journals and a member of ASME and JEA.
Dr. Javed joined AUIS in fall 2019 after serving in Pakistan and USA as an Assistant Professor Mechanical Engineering. His research interests include using nonlinear-dynamics and vibrations’ tools to model and simulate dynamical systems, which are mostly energy harvesting systems and has also worked on biomimicry. He worked in industry in Pakistan as a design and then production engineer for around two years. His teaching background comprises of range of experiences inside undergraduate classrooms and labs of Mechanical Engineering, with focused expertise in dynamics and vibrations.
