AUIS Announces National Scholarships for Students from Across Iraq and the Kurdistan Region

Monday, August 23, 2021 - 14:15

American University of Iraq, Sulaimani (AUIS) announced today a new scholarship program that will cover full tuition and dormitory fees through graduation for students from all of Iraq’s 19 governorates. Student recipients will be named AUIS National Scholars and receive special recognition in their home governorates upon selection.

A total of 40 scholarships will be awarded to two students from each governorate, with two additional scholarships designated for Baghdad. Recipients must be Iraqi citizens who graduated from high school during the 2019-2020 or 2020-2021 academic years and received a score of 90% or above on the Baccalaureate examination or an equivalent score on an international examination. The scholarship is only available to new students applying to AUIS for the 2021-2022 admissions cycle.

“At AUIS, we welcome students from diverse geographic backgrounds who enrich the learning experience for all our students,” said AUIS President Bruce Walker Ferguson. “The new AUIS National Scholarships provide excellent students from across Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, regardless of their family finances, with the opportunity to develop the academic background and critical-thinking skills necessary to succeed in their professional and personal lives.”

Operated for the public benefit, AUIS is the first non-governmental, not-for-profit, American-style university in Iraq. Founded in 2007, it is also the first non-governmental university in the Iraqi Kurdistan Region to be accredited by both the federal Government of Iraq and the Kurdistan Regional Government. It is the only certified member in Iraq of the Association of American International Colleges and Universities. The University welcomes students from diverse communities throughout Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.
