Dr. Kareem received his Ph.D. in Parasitology (Molecular Parasitology) from Keele University in the UK. He is currently a full-time assistant professor at AUIS. His research focuses primarily on malaria, especially the malaria parasite pathogen Plasmodium falciparum and how the erythrocytic stage of malaria parasite growth can be inhibited by novel compounds using molecular methods. He is also interested in the biology of malaria merozoite egress and invasion of the erythrocyte. Other research interests include molecular biology and cell biology of infectious disease.
