American University of Iraq, Sulaimani (AUIS) hosted its eighth annual Career Fair on April 24, 2019, bringing together 36 sponsors and exhibitors, and continuing its tradition as a forum for talented jobseekers to meet and network with recruiters from the country’s most sought-after companies and organizations.
Under the theme, “Bringing the Best to Sulaimani,” the 2019 AUIS Career Fair organizing committee extended invitations to top students from universities across the Kurdistan region and southern Iraq to participate and attend the one-day event. Students from Baghdad, Basra, Sulaimani, Erbil, and Koya attended the event and high school students from the Sherko Bekas School in Sulaimani also made an appearance at the Fair as part of their scheduled campus visit to AUIS.
Eighty percent of AUIS alumni are employed full-time or pursuing graduate studies.
Companies and organizations from both the public and private sectors were present at the Fair, representing a range of sectors from oil and gas; banking and finance; telecom; media and advertising; business; education; non-profit and civil society; e-commerce; and more. Some 800 attendees took advantage of the chance to meet face-to-face with representatives and learn about employment and internship opportunities as well as developments in various industries.
As one of the highlights of the spring semester, the annual Fair plays an important role in providing opportunities for students and alumni to evaluate future career paths. The Fair itself, along with career-themed seminars and workshops that take place during the week, give students and alumni a chance to explore themes in employment and post-graduate studies.
