Genel Energy is an Anglo-Turkish independent oil and gas exploration and production company with world class assets.
Its assets in the Kurdistan Region place it in the top tier of independent exploration and production. Through the development of their assets in the Kurdistan Region and through their value-accretive acquisitions, Genel Energy is steadily growing into a leading E&P business. The company, with headquarters in London and additional offices in Ankara and Erbil, is the largest independent oil producer and the largest holder of reserves in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.
Genel Energy began its operations in the Kurdistan Region in 2002 and constructed its first new oil well after the 2003 Iraq invasion. In 2012, the company announced the most comprehensive exploration and drilling programme in the Kurdistan Region to that date. Genel Energy was one of the first companies to engage with the Kurdistan Region after the Iraq war and has since maintained a positive working relationship with the Kurdistan Regional Government.
