AUIS strives to be an academic center of excellence and public benefit for the people of KRG and Iraq. Therefore, the AUIS Admissions Office seeks and admits students of high academic merit regardless of family background, income, ethnicity, gender or nationality. To measure aptitude, the AUIS Admissions Office relied on the Iraq/KRG Baccalaureate exam and TOEFL ITP English test.
Students who completed high scholl outside of Iraq are encouraged to apply. AUIS enrolls a multitude of repatriated Kurds and Iraqis who attended high school in the US and Europe.
All applicants must take an English placement test upon admission to AUIS. About 90% require English training before joining the academic program, which they receive from the Academic Preparatory Program (APP). Students that meet a certain score in speaking, reading, and writing directly enter the Academic Program.

All undergraduate students must complete the AUIS Core Program, focusing on the humanities and sciences, before beginning coursework in their chosen major. Classes are taught in English by international professors or local instructors with international degrees. The AUIS Academic Preparatory Program (APP) is designed as an intensive Engilsh language proficiency program to help students build a solid foundation in English and mathematics before matriculating into undergraduate study. In 2015, the Commission on English Language Program Accreditation (CEA) gradnted the program a five year accreditation, lasting until April 2020.
Master of Business Administration |
The Master of Business Administration program is designed for established professionals and recent graduates looking to enhance their business skll sets and strengthen their career opportunities.
The program allows students to customize their degrees by offering three areas of specialization: Leadership, Project Management and Finance.
Accreditation and Ranking |
Under the laws and regulations of the Kurdistan Regional Government, AUIS is a fully recognized university and indeed classed as the best of its kind under its jurisdiction. This jurisdiction is decisive for national and international recognition, since under the Iraqi constitution (cf. Article 115) the regulation of education is not reserved to the federal government, regional regulation and recognition has priority. AUIS complies with the rules and regulations of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MoHESR) of the Kurdistan Region of the Federal Republic of Iraq. In addition to AUIS admissions standards, all enrolled AUIS students must meet the basic enrollment criteria and standards of the MoHE. Likewise, in addition to rigorous internal quality assurance, all academic programs at AUIS are subject to the quality assurance standards laid out by the KRG MoHE.
In 2015, AUIS was ranked as the top private university in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.
The Commission on English Language Program Accreditation (CEA) has granted the University’s Academic Preparatory Program (APP) a five year accreditation, from April 2015 to April 2020.
