Digital Microscopes: Crowd Build and Photo Contest
Discovery Week at AUIS kicked off with a microscope building activity by students and faculty members. The low cost digital microscopes were built using easily available material, including smart-phones and tablets for digital imaging.
The students have now been divided into teams and will use the microscopes to photograph and record water and cells samples taken around the campus. The photos taken will be collected and awards will be given to the three best photos and videos.
This year marked the 450th anniversary of the birth of Galileo Galilei. AUIS is celebrating his birthday and his discoveries. The act of discovery itself is being marked by Discovery Week, which is hosting a series of events on campus November 8-13. University-wide activities will include a lecture series on discovery, film screenings and trivia, theatrical performances, photo contests, microscope building and stargazing excursions.
